These photos don't just represent the passage of time over the last 12 months, nor are they inclusive of every project or photo shoot I have been a part of, but they do include my favorite photos and moments of 2023 from my vantage point behind the lens. As photographers at UVU we are asked to photograph everything from portraits and studio work to sports events and graduation. The images are both a recording of the visual history and marketing materials. In everything we shoot we strive for excellence in visual storytelling combined with aesthetic appeal. Creating images that reveal the resilient spirit of the students, staff, and faculty of Utah Valley University is what makes mine the best job on campus.

ISAAC HALE

This year marked my third academic year working on the photo team in the Marketing and Communications Department at Utah Valley University. The culture of dedication to the craft of photography among the photo staff has offered a fertile environment for me to continuously refine my photo skills. I’ve continued to learn many new things about my craft such as studio lighting, remote cameras for sporting events, and conceptional photography. I think these photos showcase what I have learned and tell the UVU story from my perspective over the last year.

The best thing about photographing on campus is getting to know the people who make up UVU! This year I had the honor of photographing several historic events for the university, including the Young Living Alumni Center grand opening and the NIT quarterfinals! It’s always a blast capturing these moments and the smaller ones in between that show the accomplishments of UVU and its students.

2023 has been amazing year filled with fun moments. Capturing these small moments and freezing time is a way I can share the greatest things UVU has to offer. Time can escape all of us but if we take a moment to see what is right in front of us, we can see those memories that we will cherish forever. Through these photos I can see that UVU continues to be the place for me.
